It's not that I think you all are bad at RPing, It's just that Dally and I saw some....well...not so good roleplaying going on and I wanted to help a bit.
~Godmoding and Powerplaying~
Now, I'm sure everybody has been told about this, but, I'm gonna tell you again. Godmoding and powerplaying are pretty much the same thing; Your character is invincible, perfect, and can control what the others are doing. Here's an example:
RPer1: *James stabs at Darry*
RPer2: *Darry evades the attack, and stabs James. James falls to the ground*
In this example, Darry is powerplaying. For one, he's making himself unbeatable, and telling James what his character is doing. Godmoding is one thing that an RPer should never do. It's rude, and shows inexperience.
'm not saying that every time you are in a fight scene, you should take all the hits, but balance out the number of times you are hurt and the times you manage to keep safe in a realistic way.
~Desperates~
Desperates… "Despies" are RPers who look for nothing but love and flattery. Usually they are beautiful, and go into way too much detail on looks. Not to bash Teen Rps, like The Outsiders with most teens, but that's where most of them are found. Here's an example of a despie's post:
Despie1: Megan: She is 17 years old, and is very attractive. She wears a red cholker, a red tube-top, and black cargo pants. Boys always want her, but she dosent have a bf. Single and looking!
*shudder* Okay, RPers, never post like that, unless you want a flood 'Advanced' RPers bashing you! When telling about your character, try to give more background info than description of looks… And please, there is no such thing as being flawless. I'm not forcing you to do this, but try to make at least two things wrong about your character… It makes them more interesting.
~One-liners~
Most of you probably know (Or you can probably guess)what a one-liner is. A one-liner isn't just a short post, its a pitiful short post that lacks description, like this:
RPer1: Emily looked at the dragon and said, "Don't hurt me!"
This one-liner could be fixed up, like this:
RPer1: Emily looked fearfully at the huge dragon. Her lips quivred and she cried out in terror, "Don't hurt me!"
~Spelling and Typos~
Check your spelling! Look for typos! I know you want to hurry and post, oh, and that "Add Message" button is sooo tempting, but, you need to check your spelling! I am usually guilty of spelling-errors and typos, I admit to that. Stupid bad habits >.< Anyway, here's an example:
RPer1: Johny wlked outsde to hav a smok. He sat dwn ad tok a lng drg of his cigaret.
That was just… A really poopy post. See? 'Johny' came off as inexperienced (*ahem* cigret.), plus, he pretty much typoed his own name >.<
~A Few Tips~
Here are a few tips from me… Some people may disagree (and by all means, disagree if you want to! These are mere suggestions!), but I find these few simple things to make a person seem more professional:
*Don't use asterisks (*)or double colons ( :: )to illustrate action. (if it's something like *whoops*...that's ok)
*If you aren't sure what an RP is, don't post "WHATS AN RP!?" all over the boards. Just ask me or Dally and find out, but uhh...you really shouldn't have joined this site if you have no clue what a roleplay is.
*Don't use "and then" over and over again.
*use descriptive words, but don't use words that are so big and unusual(especially one's you can't pronounce, or only think you understand) it sounds like you're re-writing Shakespeare!
*Don't use apostrophes(') too much, (e.g.: "O'er the ri'er a w'olf 'o ebon' sat u'on a 'ill.") as it makes what you are trying to say impossible to understand.
*Never tell people to 'c desc.', why would they waste their time doing that? Besides, if you're skilled enough, you can convey all important things about your character through RP.
*Please, and I cannot stress this enough...don't post like this:
'Pony walks out to the street and walks over 2 u 2* Hey guyz what's up'
*One more...Please...post over 30 words. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE....if you can't that's fine. But NO onelining.
